George Mason Army ROTC, the Patriot Battalion, is among the best in the country, consistently producing highly qualified commissioned officers for the Active Army, National Guard, and the Army Reserves. Our philosophy is to teach, coach, and mentor you as you grow into an effective warrior-scholar-athlete. We accomplish this by building the fundamentals and expanding on mission command philosophy to accomplish the mission. We will be challenging you to push your limits along the way and help build you into an efficient and effective leader. We will assist you in honing your leadership skills by providing resources, guidance, mentorship, and multiple training opportunities to expand your skill sets. We encourage you to take advantage of our program’s vast cadre knowledge and experience as you continue your personal and professional progression. The ROTC program will prepare you to meet the challenges and responsibilities that you will encounter as a leader in the United States Army. Leadership as a commissioned officer is a privilege you must earn; only after demanding training and preparation will we entrust America’s sons and daughters to your care. As such, the Army ROTC program’s standards are high, and not everyone possesses what it takes to complete the rigors of the program. However, your commitment, as displayed by continued motivation, desire, and hard work, should ensure your success and will serve as a prideful remembrance for life. Successful completion of Army ROTC at George Mason will prepare you not only for a rewarding career as an Army officer, but it also will be instrumental in your personal and professional growth. Army ROTC requires a sincere commitment on your part, yet it is a journey you will not make on your own. Our goal is to build cohesive teams through mutual trust that creates a shared understanding. This creates highly effective teams which will increase the overall success of all who participate. You will experience formal and informal mentorship that provides cadets with advice, counsel, and friendship as you progress through the program and will be instrumental in your personal and professional development.
